Questions and answers

What people ask about the book and the exhibition.

Questions, answered plainly

When will the book be released, and what will it cost?

The release date and the price are not set yet. The book is being completed and offered to publishers. If you reserve a copy, we will write to you with the price and the release date before anything is charged, so reserving costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

What exactly will I receive?

Glowing Dinosaurs: An Atlas of Glowing Ancient Forms, by Firoiu Dan Nicolae. It holds 101 dinosaurs, one to a spread, with three glowing plates for each animal, 303 in all. The format is 24 by 30 centimetres, with about 240 pages. Every entry has three facts, field notes, a timeline, a map of where the fossils were found, a size panel and a danger gauge, and the sources are listed at the back.

Who is it for?

It is written for families and young readers, with facts short enough to read aloud and pictures large enough to pore over together. It is also made as a gift to keep: a large book in black and gold that looks at home on a table. Because every fact is sourced and every page follows the same layout, it works in schools and libraries too, where readers can compare one animal with the next.

Are the colours real?

No, and the book says so. No dinosaur is known to have glowed, and the plates are artistic interpretations. Everything printed beside them is checked natural history.

I run a bookshop or a museum shop. Can I stock it?

Yes. Write to us for trade terms. The companion volume, Most Dangerous Dinosaurs, can be stocked alongside it, and both books sit naturally beside dinosaur exhibitions, fossil halls and science centres.

I am a publisher. What is available?

Publishing agreements, co-editions, distribution and translation rights. A sample of the book and a presentation are ready to send, and the design and the sourcing method are complete. Glowing Dinosaurs is volume IV of the Glowing Series, which also includes Glowing Oceans, Glowing Bugs and Most Dangerous Bugs.

Can we show the exhibition or the animatronics?

Yes. The exhibition comes at every scale, from a single gallery wall to a whole town, and can be joined by eight fluorescent animatronic dinosaurs that glow under ultraviolet light. Write to us with your space and dates, and we will send a proposal.

How do I get in touch?

Write to Firoiu Dan Nicolae at Coco Agency, dan@cocoagency.bg, or call +359 87 612 8527.

More questions

Can I buy a single plate as a work of art?

Yes. The plates are also offered as works for the wall, printed at 60 or 100 centimetres on wood or acrylic under glass, signed and numbered by the artist. Each image is offered at one level only: as a unique work, in an edition of ten, or in an edition of twenty-five. The collector’s editions page explains the formats; write to us to ask which works are available.

Is the book suitable for schools and libraries?

Yes. Every entry follows the same layout, with the same six signs, so readers can compare one dinosaur with another, and every fact is traced to a published source listed at the back of the book. That makes it useful for teaching about fossils, geological time and how science works, as well as a book to enjoy for its pictures.

Will the book be published in other languages?

The atlas is written in English. Translation and co-edition rights are open to publishers; write to us if you would like to publish Glowing Dinosaurs in your language or country.

How do the animatronic dinosaurs glow?

The animatronics are covered in fluorescent skins that glow under ultraviolet light. In a darkened room or outdoors at night, the ultraviolet lamps make their bodies shine in the same colours as the plates in the book, while their motors move the head, jaws and body.

Who is behind Glowing Dinosaurs?

The book and the exhibition are created by the artist, producer and curator Firoiu Dan Nicolae and produced by CocoAgency EOOD in Sofia, Bulgaria. Glowing Dinosaurs is volume IV of the Glowing Series, which also includes Glowing Oceans and Glowing Bugs.
